Developing Good Study Habits-The Three R’s-Read, Review, Remember

Developing healthy study habits can elevate every student’s level of learning and performance. Establishing a routine to study lessons; for understanding and for test preparation, is a proactive approach to academic success. Engaging in lesson reviews throughout the school week is a student’s opportunity to check for understanding and prepare for any assessments or testing. Performance results  on reviews, quizzes or tests are helpful, to students and teachers, as a measure of skill sets, levels of understanding, and study habits. 

Here is a list of good study habits to develop:

  • Establish a study space: Find a place to study that minimizes distractions. 
  • Create a study plan: Schedule when and what you’ll study. 
  • Use a planner or calendar to stay on track. 
  • Set goals: Make a list of study goals and check them off when completed.
  • Take breaks: Pause between study sessions, to exercise or eat a healthy snack. 
  • Study with a group: actively participate and identify concepts or questions. 
  • Ask for help: Reach out to tutors, professors, or classmates for help.
  • Get enough sleep: Make sure you’re taking care of yourself. 
  • Avoid procrastination: Follow a plan to work on assignments to not fall behind. 
  • Reward yourself: Celebrate your accomplishments.

    • Memorization Exercises
    • Outlining/highlighting notes
